IT Courses “Reassuringly Costly?
The late comedienne Linda Smith once laughed, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.
It’s a funny old world, but until the recent credit crunch, we consumers bought into the view that “Expensive equals quality, or Low prices for cheap goods. Advertisers perpetuated the myth – think of the mouth-watering shots on the M&S ads, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. On the other hand, the food shops low cost ranges were acknowledged by spendthrifts but not by you and I.
In IT training, expensive companies (aren’t they superior - if you can afford it - why else would they be so well known?) acknowledged that colleges exist who’ll do it cheaper but be careful, it won’t be as good.
Then the world takes a couple of turns, the economic future is uncertain, and suddenly value takes priority! Discerning shoppers stop visiting Waitrose, and instead head towards Aldi and Lidl. City bankers and their fat cat payouts are frowned upon, and we all look more closely at what we buy.
Have we been fooled by paying higher prices? Look a little closer into the UK training market, and there’s a lot to discover. Just because we need an ever increasing number of skilled networking professionals and programmers, are we really getting a good deal coughing up over five thousand pounds for training, or are we missing something better? It’s a bit much that many computer training providers are preaching one thing whilst practicing another - supplying a workforce for the digital age using pen and paper methods. Should we really have to wade through books when anything can be downloaded in this communication age? Why should we drive to training centres, paying even more for our accommodation to do what we could do at home? Anytime Interactive training should be available for me anywhere – at my convenience, but not at my cost.
With newer, user friendly training options available at less than half these prices, perhaps we should wake up to the fact that when it comes to electronic learning, value is higher quality for a more reasonable price. Things are changing in Computer training – in supermarket terms, it’s “Taste the Difference goods for “Basic prices. In this uncertain world of today, that’s welcome news.
